Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has warned that any attempt by the United States to take control of Cuba will be met with "impregnable resistance". This comes as power returns to some parts of the island following a nationwide grid collapse. DíAZ-Cel accused the US of using economic weakness as an "outrageous pretext" to seize Cuba. Despite threats from US President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio responded by saying that Cuba needs "new people in charge" to address its economic issues. The US effectively blocked its oil supply earlier this year, depriving Cuba's electricity network of its main source of fuel. Despite uncertainty over any US threats, some Cubans have expressed hope for dialogue and understanding.
