The U.S. military has dropped multiple 5,000-pound deep-penetrator bombs on Iranian anti-ship missile sites near the Strait of Hormuz, which is considered a risk to international shipping. This comes as the Iranian military has been attacking ships in the strait, through which about 20 percent of the world's oil supply flows. Since the war began, gas prices have increased due to disruptions in oil markets. The threat of Iran's ability to use low-cost drones, sea mines, and anti-piracy tactics is also cited as a reason for reluctance to reopen the Strait.
