A report by the West Health-Gallup Center on Healthcare in America has revealed that about one in three US adults, more than 82 million people, have cut back on basic expenses just to afford healthcare. The findings were compiled from a national survey of nearly 20,000 adults conducted in 2025. The financial strain is most severe among lower-income and uninsured Americans, with 62% of uninsured adults reporting similar trade-offs. Nearly 3 in 10 insured Americans also report cutting back. The report also found that healthcare costs are delaying major life decisions, with an estimated 24 million adults delaying retirement due to healthcare expenses.
