Heat wave melts excuses for California’s failure to expand water storage

The California heat wave is set to melt what's left of California's snowcap, potentially leading to water shortages. This comes after the Golden State was declared free of drought for the first time in 25 years. However, there has been insufficient snowfall in the Sierra Nevada and the snow is expected to disappear. California could have built more dams to catch runoff from major storms and melting snow, but has not done so so far. The state has opposed good ideas like the proposal to raise the height of the Shasta Dam by 18.5 feet.
