Fusion startup Helion is reportedly in talks to sell power to OpenAI, a partnership between the two companies backed by Sam Altman. The deal could guarantee OpenAI 12.5% of Helion’s production, with Helion expected to produce five gigawatts by 2030 and 50 gigs by 2035. The company plans to rapidly scale production of its fusion power plant, with each reactor generating 50 megawatts of electricity. Helion raised $425 million last year from investors including Altman, Mitril, Lightspeed, and Softbank. If successful, Helion would be years ahead of the competition, which is currently targeting commercial operations.
