AARP Nevada plans to lobby state lawmakers for changes to how crypto kiosks are handled, warning that they are being used in scams that cost victims thousands of dollars. The group has identified this as a priority for the 2027 legislative session. The machines, which resemble ATMs, allow users to deposit cash and convert it into cryptocurrency, are being exploited by criminals. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Detective Marc Evans said the lack of safeguards, including limited identity verification requirements, makes them attractive tools for scammers. On average, victims in Las Vegas lose around $13,000 in scams involving crypto-atm machines. In Nevada, crypto kiosk operators may be licensed as money transmitters, but there is no crypto-specific regulatory system focused on how the machines are used.
