The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is proposing to rename a 128-acre Pickaway County tract near Circleville, named the Charles O. Trump Wildlife Preserve after the late Charles Trump left the land to the department’s Wildlife Division in 1996. The change could suggest that the property was named to honor President Donald Trump, whose environmental record is criticized. Critics argue that public naming publicly funded undertakings for living or ex-officeholders amounts to campaign advertising paid for by taxpayers. The proposal has been met with opposition, with some suggesting that public landmarks should not be named for living politicians.
