The US Department of Public Health (DPS) has issued a warning about a stronger version of the street drug "rhino tranq," a mix of fentanyl and animal sedative that resists overdose reversal. The CDC has stated that "Rhino Tranq" is an emerging, highly-risky street drug that can increase the rate of overdose, decrease low blood pressure, and potentially cause cardiovascular complications. The highest concentration of this drug is in the Northeast. The public and medical providers in Los Angeles are urged to be aware of this dangerous drug. The L.A. County provides free fentanyl testing strips at community health stations and urges people not to use drugs, but to stay away from potential overdose.
