The Senate has voted 90-8 to advance its version of a comprehensive housing reform package, which includes provisions from a similar bill passed by the House and includes a potential ban on institutional investors. The bill, named the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, also includes limits on the ability of institutional investors to buy single-family homes. This comes after the House passed its own version of the bill. The next step is reconciliation, with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Tim Scott (R-SC) expecting a final version to incorporate 20 to 21 of the provisions in the House's 25 total, as well as 36 of the 40 in the Senate bill. Critics have criticized the bill's language, while others argue that it offers more stability and long-term outlook for investors seeking stable returns.
