A recent event at the Hobart Library featured a program called Read to a Dog, aimed at engaging school-aged children and adults in a safe environment. The program is presented by Dan Fulkerson, a trainer/volunteer with LCC (Lutheran Church Charities) K-9 Comfort Dogs, who travel to local nursing homes, hospitals, and other locations to comfort people. The event is usually held on Fridays after school hours and gives children and teens a calming break after a full day of school. The LCC operates in Northbrook, Illinois and has affiliates in 27 states.
