Google cuts data center power use to ease strain on US grids

Google has signed agreements with five U.S. electric utilities to reduce its electricity use during peak demand. This move is part of a wider effort to secure power for fast-growing data centers amid slow additions of new supply. The agreements will allow Google to reduce electricity consumption at some data centers when demand on the grid is exceptionally high. This comes as power supplies are short in some regions and new infrastructure is often taking years to build.
