Karen Bass, the incumbent mayor of Los Angeles, is running for a second term in the June 2 primary against 13 other candidates. She has stated that she plans to implement a comprehensive policy in her second term that includes increasing public safety, increasing police response and increasing transparency. She also plans to address the homelessness crisis, prioritizing interim housing to bring people indoors and reducing street homelessness. She plans to establish the Office of Community Safety as a permanent function with a dedicated budget for unarmed crisis response and violence intervention. She will expand the CIRCLE program to 24/7 coverage in every zip code and establish a permanent model for policing for peace and reducing crime. Bass plans to reduce homelessness, bringing people directly off the streets into safe climate-controlled environments with mental health and substance abuse services. She emphasizes the importance of avoiding incarceration or waiting for Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH), prioritizing temporary housing to provide immediate stability and reducing project approval times.
