Fetterman: ICE officers seem to have ‘enhanced some kinds of performance’ at airports

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) has stated that the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at U.S. airports has improved airport operations due to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown. Most DHS employees continue to work without pay as they are deemed essential, but an increasing number are calling out sick due to shortages in the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) shortages. Fettermen also noted that it has become harder and harder to justify the shutdown due to anticipated travel disruptions during the FIFA World Cup. He was the only member of his party to back a bill last month to keep the department running.
