Apple's new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro were expected to increase prices due to the growing demand for memory and storage by AI chips. However, the only surprise was that memory upgrade costs remained unchanged. Storage upgrade prices on the MacBook Pro actually decreased in some cases. This shift is significant as chip makers have increased supply of memory and tariffs are affecting supply chains. Apple has always charged a premium for upgrading memory or storage, charging customers $200 to go from 16GB to 24GB of memory.
