A judge in the Google ad tech class action has rejected a preemptive fee bid from lawyers representing both sides of the dispute. The publishers' lawsuit accuses Google of abusing its market power for online advertising technology and overcharging them in violation of federal antitrust law. Judge Castel in December certified the publishers’ lawsuit as a class action and appointed law firms Boies Schiller, Korein Tillery, and Berger Montague to represent the class on behalf of The Nation, Genius Media Group, and other publications. The case could result in tens of millions in legal fees for the publishers' lawyers. Google has denied any wrongdoing and has urged Castel not to issue a set-aside order to halt settlements.
