Brown University is preserving flowers left at memorial sites following a mass shooting on campus in December 2025. The victims were identified as 48-year-old Portuguese national Claudio Neves Valente, a former Brown University student and Portuguese national, who shot and killed two students and injured nine others. As part of the preservation efforts, Brown University leaders are saving select flower samples for future use. Many of these samples are being stored at the Brown University Herbarium, an on-campus natural history museum for preserved plants.
