The Supreme Court may not be able to determine the meaning of the 14th Amendment's Citizenship Clause, which guarantees citizenship for children of illegal aliens or migrants on temporary visas. The government argues that temporary visitors and illegal aliens cannot be “subject to the jurisdiction” of the United States due to their lack of ties of allegiance to the country. This is the first time the president has attended the Supreme Court, where he had a direct view of the justices arguing about the government's interpretation of the clause. The court also questioned the theory that parents must be "domiciled" for children to be citizens, but this argument was dismissed by Justice Samuel Alito and Justice John Roberts. Since the court struck down Trump’s tariffs in February, Trump has expressed disappointment at his appointees' decisions, calling them “dumb Judges and Justices” that he believes are not a great country.
