He Made a Battery Pack Using Disposable Vapes to Power His Electric Car
Published on March 15, 2026.
British engineer Chris Doel has used a homemade battery pack built out of discarded vapes to power an electric car. The project aims to show that valuable resources are being cast off every day. Doel purchased a 2007 G-Wiz for £800 and spent five months working on the project. He then used a 3D printed case to combine 500 cells wired in parallel into groups connected in series to create a massive battery pack. The completed pack successfully powered his house for eight hours before running out of juice. Doe then decided to reuse the battery pack for an electric vehicle. Despite the flammability of the vehicle, he spent five hours a day rewiring the car and sorting out the legal paperwork before taking it out for a spin.
