Richy Ledezma, a midfielder and right back born in Phoenix, could be among up to four U.S.-born players playing for Mexico in the 2026 World Cup in the country where his parents were born. Ledezm, who joined Chivas last summer from PSV, played for the Under-20 World Cup and had one appearance with the senior squad in 2020. He could also be joined on the Mexican squad by Chivas teammate Brian Gutiérrez, who was born in Berwyn, Illinois, and Obed Vargas, who plays for Atlético Madrid and Julián Araujo, a native of Lompoc, California. Mexico has never had more than two Mexican-Americans play for a World Cup.
