Sweden briefly detains freighter from Russia over coal pollution

A Panamanian-registered freighter from Russia, the Hui Yuan, was detained by the Swedish coastguard for discharging coal residue into the sea off the southern coast of Sweden. The captain of the ship admitted the offence and paid a deposit against a fine. The coastguard has confirmed that the cargo was bound for Spain. This is not the first time the coast guard has taken control of the vessel.
