Apple's new M5 Max laptop, priced at $1,099 and $6,149, has been tested by the company for its faster read and write speeds compared to its predecessors. The company claims that its 2026 models can deliver up to 2x the sustained read/write speeds of the M4 Pro and Max laptops. The 16-inch M5Max MacBook Pro can sustain a 13.6GB/s read speed and an even higher 17.8GB /s write speed, compared to the 4TB drive on our M4 Max review unit. The M5 has six super cores and 12 of the new performance cores, which are designed for power-efficient, multi-threaded workloads. In single-core CPU tests, the new super core gives the M5 Maxwell an eight or nine percent edge in benchmarking. The performance gains are substantial enough to make a difference to night-and-day use of a laptop with the M2 Max. However, users who already have access to these speeds are missing out on a ton’s capacity limits.
