Louis Armstrong International Airport has unveiled its 20-year master plan, outlining expansion plans to handle significant growth. The airport, which served 12.4 million passengers and processed over 52,000 tons of cargo last year, plans to serve 8.6 to 9.7 million departing passengers within the next 10 years. The expansion includes a second terminal facility, 10 to 15 additional gates, an improved roadway system, and an additional parking garage. No taxpayer funds will be used for the enhancements, according to Mayor Helena Moreno. Tourism leaders believe the expansion is crucial to attract large events like the Super Bowl and other large events. The master plan has been submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration for final acceptance.
