A six-day poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos has found that a strong partisan divide exists over trust in elections, with strong majorities of Republicans believing that fraud is widespread, despite a lack of evidence supporting this claim. The poll also found that 46% of respondents agreed with the statement that there are large numbers of fraudulent ballots cast by non-citizens in U.S. elections, compared to 82% of Democrats and 38% of independents. 53% were worried about fraudulent mail‑in or absentee ballots, with 83% expressing concern, versus 33% of Democrat. The survey also found bipartisan support for voter ID requirements, but did not address stricter Republican-proposed measures under debate in Congress. Despite these challenges, a majority of Americans are generally confident their ballots will be counted in elections.
