Shay Taylor-Allen, a final-year medical school student, has been matched into an anesthesiology residency at Yale Hospital in New Haven, where she worked as a janitor for a decade. She began her career as a doctor after her mother became ill and doctors dismissed her symptoms as mental illness, which she believed were more than just psychosomatic. She contacted the head of the hospital, who responded almost immediately to her mother's plight. Following her revelation, Taylor-Ashton began advocating for patients and began researching medical science. She plans to return to the hospital as a resident in 2021.
