Ted Turner Was Captain Planet

Ted Turner, a prominent media mogul known for launching CNN and creating the 24/7 cable news channel, has passed away at the age of 40. Turner, known for creating the Turner Foundation, which provides grants to support environmental causes a decade after he founded CNN. The foundation was established to protect and restore the natural systems that all life depends on. Turner co-created the environmental superhero Captain Planet with Barbara Pyle and the animated TV series Captain Planet and the Planeteers, repurposed these three Earth systems into powers wielded by a group of teenagers. The series, which aired 113 episodes from 1990-1996, saw Gaia the spirit of the Earth abandon Earth due to pollution and overdevelopment. Turner also donated $1 billion to the United Nations, a global organization founded to maintain peace and security across the globe. To date, Turner has awarded more than $400 million in grants to help those doing Gaia's work.
