As vote looms interim CEO of Juvenile Welfare Board addresses allegations

Pinellas County’s Juvenile Welfare Board (JWB) is delaying its decision on a new CEO, interim CEO Michael Mikurak, due to allegations of misusing public funds. The decision was split 5-5 (with one abstention) between Mikurk and contender "Glen" Gilzean Jr. Both candidates have faced scrutiny over allegations of overzealous spending of $9.9 million over two months without approval during their time as Orange County's supervisor of elections. The board has stated that these claims are under review and the allegations led to Stivers’ suspension and termination. Mikarak, who has worked with the JWB for 11 years and is currently serving under an extended contract as interim CEO, argued that his local ties and experience would make him ideal for the position.
