The New York Rangers defeated the Red Wings 7-1, marking their largest win of the season so far. The team, which was officially eliminated from playoff contention over a week and a half ago, has been playing better hockey and winning more than they have all season long. The win was the fifth in the past six games and marked the largest win for the team. Young players have contributed to the team's improvement, with Adam Fox leading with a goal and two assists. Will Cuylle was one assist short of a Gordie Howe hat trick, while J.T. Miller and Tye Kartye also contributed significantly to the win.
