A record-breaking heat has settled into the Bay Area, marking the final days of winter. The National Weather Service predicts that temperatures will remain above normal for the next three or four days, with the anticipated cooling not likely to be significant. The weather service recorded record-setting high temperatures of 90 degrees in Salinas and in Redwood City, 87 at the Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport and 83 at the San Francisco Airport, all breaking records set previously in 2004. A heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. on Friday, the first official day of spring, and temperatures are expected to rise slightly through the weekend. A massive area of high pressure has been creating a temporary barrier to any troughs and has kept stormier weather to the Pacific Northwest.
