Three friends who have been friends with Beth, a former high school acquaintance, have been unable to reach out to her terminally ill friend despite her isolation from almost everyone. Beth, who had medical issues exacerbated by COVID, had to retire unexpectedly and fell into a deep depression and withdrew from her friends. Her family informed them about her health issues and she isolated herself from all of them, even her own family. Her son, Michael, has been informed about her condition but has dissuaded them from contacting his mother, Beth. The author suggests that expressing your feelings in a letter to Beth, expressing how much she has meant to you and expressing them through their mutual respect.
