AARP warns Americans on major Medicare, Social Security problem

AARP has warned that Social Security and Medicare programs are facing serious financial difficulties, and action is needed to ensure their longevity. The advocacy group for older Americans supports both programs and is working to preserve their existence. AARP stated that without congressional action, Social Security benefits could be reduced by nearly 17 percent in the next decade, a loss of about $4,000 a year for the average retired beneficiary. The group also highlighted the need for congressional action to address chronic underfunding and ongoing financial issues. The top priorities for AARP are strengthening Social Security (SSC) and Medicare, lowering prescription drug prices, expanding retirement financial stability and closing the gap between lifespan and health span.
