Fresno County supervisors are planning to sue Fresno County Assessor/Recorder Paul Dictos over his interpretation of Senate Bill 2, which provides a $75 assessment for affordable housing projects, with about 70% of this going to the county of record. This comes after the county agreed to pay a $10,000 claim by a Bakersfield attorney to recover real estate fees on a large property transaction. A victory could result in higher transaction fees for large landowners. Dicto stands by his interpretation, stating that a court decision will provide recorders with guidance they have sought from California Attorney General Rob Bonta and California State Controller Malia Cohen. Despite this, the county has received about $35 million in return for the money.
