Cook County Public Health is offering home check-ins for new parents and their babies in an effort to reduce infant and maternal mortality in suburban Cook County, Illinois. The program aims to help new parents become more comfortable with caring for their babies and their newborns at home. The visits are part of the Healthy Beginnings Maternal and Child Health Program from the Cook county Public Health Department, which started this year to reduce maternal and infant mortality and promote healthier kids and families. The nurse, Maria Ajuzie, has seen baby Zamor twice at home since her birth and is also checking on mom. She says educating and supporting new moms during her visits can prevent complications, both physical and mental.
