Locals are being targeted with fraudulent texts claiming to be in need of immediate payment for unpaid tolls or parking due to confusion over Richmond's new electronic tolling system. The fraudulent texts caused chaos at the John Marshall Courthouse, where people showed up to resolve traffic infractions they never committed. The Commonwealth's Attorney's Office received over 200 calls within hours of the scam, and the state Department of Transportation is urging people not to respond to the texts or share payment information.
