TelevisaUnivision's CEO, Daniel Alegre, has warned of competitive challenges from World Cup soccer airing on rival networks in June and July. Total revenue across the U.S. and Mexico inched up 5% to $1.075 billion, while adjusted operating income before depreciation and amortization fell 6% from the year-earlier period. Subscription and licensing revenue in the US increased by 12% from a year ago to $384.7 million, with Vix continuing to gain ground and offset linear declines. However, the company warned that the World Cup's softer sports slate could lead to increased pressure on ad categories like quick-serve restaurants, automotive and technology.
