Wildfire smoke from northern Minnesota has caused closures across Fargo-Moorhead, including the Red River Zoo and all outdoor programs through the West Fargo Park District. An Air Quality Alert remains in effect until 11 a.m. Friday. Residents described the conditions as immediate and disorienting. The West Fargo Fire Department responded to reports of heavy smoke near Starr Avenue and Westly Drive, but no structure fire was present. The smoke was traced to wildfire smoke drifting into the region. Health officials have warned that wildfire smoke contains microtoxins that cause inflammation in the airways and lungs.
