Swedish homicide and manslaughter rate fell to its lowest level in over a decade in 2025, according to official statistics. The Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (BRA) reported that 84 people were killed last year, down from 92 in 2024, and well below the peak in 2020. The drop in crime is seen as a boost for the right-wing government, which won the 2022 election partly due to its promise to tackle gang violence. New tools and methods have been used to combat gang violence, including increased police powers and increased electronic surveillance. The most common cause of violent death was gun violence, accounting for 42 lives in 2025.
