Amazon has purchased Covington-based satellite firm Globalstar for $11.6B to bolster its Leo satellite network. The acquisition is part of Amazon's competition with Elon Musk's Starlink over the emerging international market of satellite internet services. In other news, Textron Systems announced plans to expand across Southeast Louisiana, with an investment of $5.8 million to grow manufacturing and engineering operations in Louisiana’s Southeast. The expansion project will bring an estimated 400 “direct and indirect” jobs to the area. Other notable developments include SwiftSight receiving early-stage venture capital funding for $450,000, and Smartective receiving a $25,000 grant from Louisiana State University for its voice-based dictation software.
