D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has urged residents to prepare for severe weather expected to hit the city on Monday afternoon. The National Weather Service has warned that the District is under a moderate risk of severe weather and the region is also under a Tornado Watch until 7 p.m. These storms could bring damaging wind gusts up to 80 mph, possible tornadoes, and heavy rain. The DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency has activated the District’s Emergency Operations Center to monitor conditions and coordinate response efforts. First responders and emergency crews are being positioned across the city to respond to potential impacts such as downed trees, power outages, and road closures. D.C.'s Public Schools will dismiss students two hours early due to the expected storms.
