Tucker Collins, an 18-year-old college freshman from Los Angeles, was blinded in his right eye by a federal agent during a protest against immigration policies under President Donald Trump at the Los Angeles "No Kings" protest on March 28. The incident occurred near the Metropolitan Detention Center where immigration detainees are held. Video of the incident was shared by Collins' attorney, V. James DeSimone, who accuses Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents of unlawfully shooting Collins with a less-lethal launcher and causing irreparable damage to his eye and fractured bones in his eye socket. The DHS has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that agents used the minimum amount of force necessary to protect themselves, the public, and federal property. However, a federal court in California has issued a preliminary injunction preventing DHS agents from using crowd control weapons on protesters, who are not themselves posing a threat of imminent harm to law enforcement or another person.
