A Seattle man, Ernie "Mack" Makinson, a passenger on a King County Metro bus, stopped the bus after the driver experienced a medical emergency and caused it to crash into multiple vehicles. Makinson was on board the Route 5 bus when the driver became unresponsive and the bus began swerving. He managed to take control of the bus and shift it into neutral, steer it towards the curb and apply the air brakes. The crash, which occurred on Greenwood Avenue, left Makinson with injuries including a broken eye and a broken jaw. He is now using a walker and is unable to work as a painting contractor due to injuries sustained during the incident.
