Cruise Ship Hits Reef Near Island Where ‘Cast Away’ Was Filmed

On April 4, Blue Lagoon Cruises had an incident involving one of their ships, which caused it to crash near Monuriki Island in Fiji, where Cast Away was filmed. The incident was reportedly caused by poor weather conditions. About 30 passengers and 30 crew members were on board during the incident. The passengers and non-essential crew disembarked with their luggage and were relocated to Port Denarau hotels. The cruise line stated that their main priority was to reduce environmental risk and to finalize a plan to recover the ship.
