Inside Qeshm, Iran’s underground missile fortress and geological marvel

Iranian island Qeshm Island, known as an underground missile fortress and geological marvel, has become a strategic anchor in the US-Israel war on Iran. The island, which covers 1,445 square kilometres (558 square miles), dominates the entrance to the strait from the Gulf and acts as a primary platform for Iran's naval power. Its size has been significantly increased by its size and strategic significance. However, US air strikes targeted a critical desalination plant on the island, cutting off fresh water supplies to 30 surrounding villages. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched strikes against US forces at the Juffair base in Bahrain, alleging the attack on Qesm had been launched from a neighbouring Gulf state. Despite this, the island’s 148,000 residents are still dependent on the sea.
