Labor rights activist Dolores Huerta has claimed that she was sexually abused by late César Chávez, a well-known Latino leader who helped highlight the struggles of farmworkers while leading the United Farm Workers. HuertA stated that she kept her experience secret for 60 years due to concern for the farmworker movement. The allegations of sexual misconduct against Chacvez, who died more than three decades ago, led to calls to alter memorials that honored him. Many places in the Southwest are named after Cháved. Some events in California, Texas, and Arizona have been cancelled due to the allegations.
