The town of Vernon, Connecticut, has contracted with Capital Tax Recovery to identify vehicles registered in Vernon but registered elsewhere in Connecticut or out of state. The contract was approved by the Vernon Town Council 10-0 with one abstention. Investigators will scan license plates and ensure the correct vehicles are properly registered. If discovered improperly, the assessor can seek three years of back taxes and interest. The registration plate data will only be used for the program.
