Fishing Point Healthcare, a provider that operates facilities in Newport News and Portsmouth, will suspend services for Medicaid patients from April 15 due to a reimbursement issue involving the state. The Department of Medical Assistance Services, the state agency that oversees Medicaid in Virginia, suspended all reimbursement payments for Fishing Point’s pharmacy and clinic services last March and informed the health care organization that it was under investigation for fraud. Since then, Fishing Point has continued providing services without reimbursement. The suspension could affect more than 4,400 patients in the area. The state did not comment on the fraud allegations. The federal government is responsible for a fixed per-visit Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement rate regardless of whether the patient is Native or non-Native.
