A worldwide review of smoking cessation from 2014 to 2023 has found that the best way to quit cigarettes is to switch from regular cigarette to nicotine-filled e-cigarettes. The study also found that nicotine-laden e-cigs were better at kicking butts than nicotine replacement methods such as patches, gums, lozenges, and behavioral support. However, the CDC has stated that switching from regular to e-cigarette is not an improvement. Despite their similarities to old-fashioned cigarettes and their harmful aerosols, they are uniquely harmful in their own ways. They contain cancer-causing chemicals and tiny particles that can be inhaled deep into lungs, which can lead to serious health issues like secondhand smoke. Despite this, the review highlighted some gaps in existing research that might lead to less harmful alternatives.
