Brian Huntley, a golf architect who has designed or renovated over 125 courses nationwide, has been intrigued by the prospect of a public golf course on the land currently occupied by Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland. The North Coast Waterfront Development Corporation, the non-profit overseeing Cleveland’s waterfront transformation, recently shared initial plans for what the future of the airport could look like. The group also conducted a community survey to gather feedback on these plans and other site-use options. Among these possible options is an 18-hole golf course, which would take up only slightly over a quarter of the plot. The golf course could drive revenue, make it easier to finance from the start, and potentially create affordable and accessible space for all.
