Despite a strong debut by right-hander Woo, the Mariners lost 6-5 to the Guardians in the 10th inning. This was not the start to the season for Woo, who had previously walked No. 9 batter Brayan Rocchio and was beaten by José Ramírez in a 3-1 count for an RBI double. This led to a mound visit from pitching coach Pete Woodworth and Woo gave up a game-tying single to Kyle Manzardo on his next pitch. Despite this, manager Dan Wilson acknowledged that his limited staff was operating with limited resources. The loss was attributed to a two-run home run by rookie Chase DeLauter, who also scored his first regular-season hit of the season.
