The threat sparked a surge in oil prices, with WTI rising from $112 to $114.01 per barrel and the Brent crude oil from $107 to $110.88 per barrel. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, Nasdaq Composite, and S&P 500 stock indices all gave up their gains and fell lower for the day.
