Dakota Life is a special edition of South Dakota Public Television, featuring a look at some of the people and places we've met across the state. The team travels from the Black Hills in the west to Yankton in the east, meeting interesting people throughout the region. They also speak with ranch hand Ernie Hirschman, who lives and works on the ranch of novelist Dan O'Brien while O’Brien travels the country writing and teaching. Ernie discusses his experiences, including working on fencing for the buffalo and building a corral, and maintaining the buffalo herd. Despite the change in career choices, Ernie remains committed to maintaining his integrity and maintaining his home in South Dakota.
